La storia incredibile del virus che uccide i batteri
The scientific community is now unanimous: from now until 2050 the resistance we have developed towards antibiotics will cause higher mortality than cancer. In the search for alternatives, scientists challenge the countdown, but one of the solutions could come from the past: phage therapy. The phages, discovered by the microbiologist Felix d’Hérelle more than a century ago, are natural predatory viruses capable of killing bacteria. Even in Italy, where therapy is not recognized by the ministry of health, the latest trials have led to the recovery of patients suffering from bone infections.
