On July 7th, 2023 , a special session was held at the Eliava Institute on the current and future regulatory pathways of phage therapy in the world.
The session was organized by ESGNTA (European Association of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Non-Traditional Antibacterial Therapy Group) and G.Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology.
Reports were presented by scientists from Georgia, Israel, Belgium, Australia, Canada and Germany, as well as by a representative of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The legal bases for recognition, approval and use of phage therapy in different countries, current challenges and perspectives were discussed during the session.
