Visit of the Representatives of the Eliava Institute to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

From February 4-6h, 2025, the UK Food Savety Research Network (PIFS (Phages in Food Safety) invited represenatatvies of the G.Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology to visit several leading scientific institutions in the UK.

As part of the visit,  the Eliava researchers had meetings at the following institutions: CPI Biologics, University of Leicester, and University of Hertfordshire. On 7th of February, the Eliava Institute’s director, Dr Mzia Kutateladze visited the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The primary goal of the visit was to explore opportunities for joint research and plan future collaborations with these leading scientific institutions. During the meetings,  both coutries’ repsresentatives have exchanged information on their exprience in bacteriophage research and phage therapy. Eliava Institute representatives engaged in discussions on specific research directions, which will contribute to the advancement of innovative projects related to phage study and applications.

This collaboration represents a significant step in advancing of phage therapy and  development of specific standards and conditions for legal approval of bacteriophages, paving the way for new scientific initiatives and strengthening international partnerships.
