Minister of Health Visited Eliava Institute
The Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, and Deputy Minister Tea Giorgadze paid an official visit to the Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology, and Virology, as well as the Eliava Phage Therapy Center. Dr. Mzia Kutateladze, Director of the Institute, welcomed the delegation and provided an in-depth overview of the institute's activities, ongoing research projects, and future plans.
Minister Sarjveladze emphasized the growing global interest in bacteriophages, driven by the rising prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. He underscored the pivotal role of the Eliava Institute in addressing this critical challenge. Phage therapy, particularly as a solution for combating antibiotic resistance, is becoming increasingly relevant. Such meetings are essential for fostering collaboration between state authorities and scientific institutions to advance this vital field.
