The 11th International Health Conference of the Georgian International Medical and Public Health Association (GIMPHA)
On May 31, 2026, the 11th International Scientific-Medical Conference of the “Georgian International Medical and Public Health Association” (GIMPHA) was held at the Sheraton Metechi Palace Hotel in Tbilisi, Georgia. The conference brought together Georgian and foreign physicians, researchers, academics, and public health professionals.
The conference addressed current issues in medicine and public health, highlighting recent scientific advances, international experience, and future perspectives for the development of Georgia's healthcare system.
A special interest and separate session of the conference f was devoted to the role and future prospects of phage therapy in addressing the growing global challenge of antimicrobial resistance. The session featured presentations by Dr. Mzia Kutateladze, Director of the Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology, Dea Nijharadze, Clinical Director of the Eliava Phage Therapy Center, and Lia Nadareishvili, physician of the same Center.
The speakers presented the Eliava Institute's decades of clinical and scientific expertise in phage therapy, highlighting its pioneering role in the field, recent advances in phage-based treatment, and the therapeutic potential of bacteriophages in combating antibiotic-resistant infections. The session underscored the Institute's longstanding contribution to the development of phage therapy and its active engagement in fostering international scientific collaboration and advancing innovative approaches to the treatment of bacterial infections.
